Innovative Drive for Excellence (InDEx): An Interventional Device to Enhance Teaching-Learning Performance in Science
Abstract:
This qualitative case study explored the implementation and impact of the Innovative Drive for Excellence (InDEx), an intervention tool developed to address student dropout and classroom management issues at Suarez National High School. InDEx utilizes personalized index cards to systematically monitor attendance, participation, and academic performance, providing real-time feedback to foster student accountability and engagement. Based on participant responses, the study found that the use of InDEx contributed to improved self-regulation, self-discipline, and academic motivation among learners. Students also reported that the tool was user-friendly and supported personalized learning. Overall, InDEx served as a practical and creative intervention that promoted consistent classroom participation and reduced absenteeism. The findings highlight the potential of context-driven, teacher-developed tools in improving learning outcomes and classroom dynamics, particularly in Science education. The study offers valuable insights for educators seeking low-cost, high-impact solutions to challenges in learner engagement and academic persistence.
