Song Adaptation as Innovation to Enhance Teaching and Learning Science among Grade IX Learners in Liangan National High School
Abstract:
This qualitative descriptive case study explored the experiences and perceptions of a teacher and seven learners from Liangan National High School regarding the use of song adaptation in teaching and learning science content. Data were gathered through five one-hour classroom observations and interviews with the learners, who were purposively selected via lottery sampling to provide insights into their learning experiences. The study investigated how the teacher integrated song adaptation into science lessons, the challenges encountered, learners’ views on the strategy, and recommendations for enhancement. Regarding the first research question, the teacher narrated learners’ responses to the innovative use of song adaptation. For the second question, thematic analysis of learner interviews revealed key themes including enjoyment, ease of learning, lasting retention, increased self-confidence, and improved memory. The findings suggest that song adaptation serves as an engaging and effective pedagogical tool in science education. However, implementation challenges highlight the need for ongoing support and refinement of the approach to maximize its benefits.
