Impact of Game-Based Teaching Activities on the Classroom Engagement in Araling Panlipunan among Junior High School Students
Abstract:
This qualitative study explores the impact of game-based teaching activities on the classroom engagement of junior high school students in Araling Panlipunan, as well as the perceptions of their teachers regarding the implementation of these strategies. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations involving students and teachers from Abaga Integrated School. The findings indicate that game-based activities significantly enhance student engagement by promoting active participation, fostering collaborative learning, and creating an enjoyable and dynamic classroom environment. Additionally, these activities contribute to the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills— competencies essential for navigating the expanding knowledge base in Araling Panlipunan. Despite these benefits, teachers identified challenges such as the lack of adequate training and limited resources, which hinder the effective integration of game-based learning. These obstacles highlight the necessity for professional development and institutional support to maximize the potential of such pedagogical approaches. Future research is recommended to examine the long-term effects of game-based teaching and to include a larger, more diverse sample to enhance generalizability.
