Time Management in a Multigrade Classroom: An In-Depth Exploration of Teachers' Strategies and Challenges

Abstract:

This qualitative descriptive case study explores the time management experiences of multigrade teachers within a Department of Education (DepEd) program, focusing on the challenges they face and strategies they employ to address the diverse learning needs across multiple grade levels. Data gathered through in-depth interviews with purposively selected teachers revealed three major time management strategies: Planning and Preparation, Collaboration and Resourcefulness, and Adaptability and Flexibility. Despite employing these strategies, teachers encountered significant challenges, including managing diverse learner needs, resource constraints, and logistical difficulties. Findings further highlight how teachers balance time allocation by engaging in strategic planning, leveraging available resources creatively, and implementing continuous assessment and feedback mechanisms. The study emphasizes the critical need for targeted professional development and institutional support to enhance the time management capacities of multigrade teachers, ultimately contributing to improved learner outcomes in multigrade settings.
