Digitalization in the Teaching of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) at Marcela T. Mabanta National High School
Abstract:
This qualitative case study explores the integration of digital tools in teaching Technical and Livelihood Education (TLE) at Marcela T. Mabanta National High School, with a focus on Grades 7 and 8. Through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with six TLE teachers, a Master Teacher, the school principal, and selected learners, the study examines the digital resources employed, their impact on learner engagement and outcomes, and the challenges encountered in implementation. Thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) framework revealed that digital platforms—such as Google Docs, Google Classroom, Canva, Kahoot, Quizizz, and Tinkercad—promoted interactive learning, strengthened practical skills, and deepened conceptual understanding. Nevertheless, barriers such as unreliable internet connectivity, limited access to devices, and insufficient teacher training hindered full-scale integration. These findings highlight the transformative potential of digitalization in TLE, while also underscoring the infrastructural and professional development needs that must be addressed. The study recommends sustained investment in ICT infrastructure, ongoing capacity-building programs for educators, and the exploration of emerging technologies to further enhance instruction.
