Success Stories of Five Alternative Learning System (ALS) Graduates in Naawan District
Abstract:
This narrative inquiry explored the lived experiences of five graduates of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) who successfully pursued higher education and secured employment. Through in-depth interviews, the study examined the personal, academic, and social challenges they encountered and how these were navigated with the support of ALS programs. Thematic analysis revealed eight key themes: achieving international employment, earning a college degree, excelling in licensure examinations, attaining managerial roles, overcoming personal adversities, balancing motherhood and education, drawing strength from family support, and receiving mentorship from ALS educators. These narratives illuminate the transformative role of ALS in fostering learner confidence, discipline, and motivation. The findings highlight the critical impact of flexible instructional delivery, empathetic teaching, and strong support systems in breaking systemic and self-imposed barriers. Ultimately, the study affirms the capacity of ALS to empower marginalized learners toward academic and professional success.
