Impact of the Integration of Technology in Teaching Learners with Autism at a Public Elementary School in Iligan City, Philippines

Abstract:

This qualitative study explores the integration of technology in teaching autistic learners in a public elementary school in Iligan City, Philippines. Through classroom observations and in-depth teacher interviews, the research found that teachers utilized a range of approaches, including the use of educational videos, hands-on activities, interactive learning platforms, assistive technology tools, and educational games. These methods contributed to improved learning outcomes, better retention, heightened motivation, enhanced communication skills, and reduced anxiety among learners. Despite these positive effects, the study highlights the need for ongoing professional development, sustained funding, and accessible resources to ensure the long-term viability of these interventions. Recommendations include expanding research across multiple school settings to capture broader perspectives and evaluating the sustainability and scalability of technological integration in special education.
