Understanding the Incentive Structure of Professional Development among Elementary Teachers in Manticao District
Abstract:
The incentive structure for elementary school teachers is pivotal in promoting professional development, job satisfaction, and improved educational outcomes. This explanatory case study investigates the incentive structure of professional development among elementary teachers in the Manticao District. Drawing on in-depth interviews with nine participants comprising teachers and administrators, the study explores their experiences, perceptions, and the challenges encountered in implementing incentive mechanisms. Thematic analysis identified key enablers of professional growth, including promotion opportunities, recognition through awards, and financial incentives. Despite these benefits, significant barriers persist, such as limited access to professional development programs, inadequate financial resources, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and time constraints. The findings highlight the need for systemic reforms to enhance the accessibility, efficiency, and impact of career incentives.
