Stories of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Graduates of Liangan National High School: An Exploratory Case Study
Abstract:
This qualitative study explores the stories of graduates who completed the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) curriculum and obtained their National Certificate II (NC II) certification at Liangan National High School. Using in-depth, semi-structured interviews, the study gathered insights on participants’ challenges, achievements, and sources of support throughout the training. Findings reveal recurring themes, including the pivotal role of instructor guidance, the benefits of peer collaboration, the career-enhancing impact of NC II certification, and the development of personal resilience in overcoming financial and personal difficulties. Moreover, the study highlights how these experiences contribute to the cultivation of adaptive skills necessary for sustained learning and professional growth in a dynamic labor market. These insights point to the importance of a holistic vocational curriculum that not only prioritizes technical competence but also nurtures personal development and long-term career readiness.
